Will there be a Frozen 3? Possible release date of the film

Gad, who voices Olaf, explained that there would only be a third edition in the franchise if it had “a reason to exist.”

Frozen is one of the most popular animated films of our time. From Elsa’s catchy songs to the hilarious Disney princess Anna, the two films have kept kids entertained for the past decade.

The first film was released in 2013, the second installment followed six years later in 2019, ending the story of our heroines, although many fans have asked if there will be a third part?

In an interview with Pop Culture, Josh Gad, who voices Olaf, stated that there would only be a third installment in the franchise if it had “a reason to exist.” While it was previously promised that the two original films would tell “a complete story”.

The sequel was the second highest-grossing animated film of all time, grossing a staggering $1.45 billion at the global box office. Given its huge success, could Disney bring it back for a third film?

Here’s everything you need to know about whether there will be a Frozen 3.

Will there be a Frozen 3?

There has been a lot of speculation among fans as to whether Frozen 3 will exist or not. It was previously promised that the two films would tell “a complete story”, so now that the second film has ended, Elsa and Anna are at peace, it’s not very likely that fans will see them again anytime soon.

In an interview with Pop Culture, Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast), who voices Olaf, stated that there would only be a third installment of the franchise if it “had a reason to exist.”

“If there’s always a story worth telling, I’m sure that one day Jennifer Lee and the incredible team at Disney Animation will tell that story.”

When could Frozen 3 be released?

Frozen was released in 2013 and Frozen II hit the screens in 2019, making the two films six years apart. This could potentially mean that a third edition could be released sometime after 2025, but since the new addition hasn’t been confirmed, that’s unlikely.

The creation of Frozen requires a lot of detail from the animators. The making of Frozen II is documented in the Into the Unknown series, available on Disney Plus, which follows the animators and the sheer amount of work that goes into creating the characters from the popular film.

Frozen directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are also currently working on their latest Disney film, Wish, which is expected to be released in 2023.

Frozen fans may have to wait until this movie debuts to know if they’re working on a new Frozen movie.

What happened in Frozen II?

Frozen II gave us a glimpse into the backstory of Elsa and Anna’s parents and how they died in the first film.

The plot follows Anna and Elsa as they make their way into the enchanted forest outside of Arendelle to find out why a voice called out to Elsa. The pair learns that there was previously a battle between Arendelle and the forest dwellers of Northuldra, cutting off the forest from the rest of the world.

They discover that their parents were shipwrecked en route to Ahtohallan. Anna and Elsa find their ship in the enchanted forest and discover that their mother was from Northuldra and that their grandfather was responsible for the battle and built a dam to weaken the people of the forest.

To put things right, Anna breaks the dam just in time when Elsa hears what her memories reveal to be her mother’s voice. Elsa becomes the “fifth spirit”, the bridge between the magical world and the human world.

Anna becomes Queen of Arendelle while Elsa stays in the forest and the two kingdoms live happily ever after.

What could be the plot for Frozen 3?

Frozen II brought many of the story’s loose ends to a close as our main characters found peace in their kingdoms. For a third installment, there would have to be an incident that would shatter this happy ending.

Who could play in Frozen 3?

Frozen 3 is expected to bring back cast favorites including Kristen Bell (The Good Place) as Anna and Idina Menzel (Glee) as Elsa, while Gad reprises his role as Olaf and Jonathan Groff (Glee) as Kristoff and Frank Welker ( Scooby) will repeat -Doo) as Sven.

Bell and Menzel have both said they would be willing to return to the franchise for a third installment. Gad has reprized the role on At Home with Olaf since Frozen II.

What did Disney say?

Disney hasn’t commented on whether there will be a third installment of the franchise. There are currently no plans to renew the popular children’s film.
