It has been highly anticipated and Bethesda’s Starfield is finally in the final stages of completion. The developers had the futuristic RPG for an 11th Released November 2022. However, the game ahead of its time has once again fallen behind on its scheduled release date. Ironic right?
Starfield will now be released in the first half of 2023 (exact date to be announced). Although Bethesda originally lined up for the November release, Bethesda announced the delay in May 2022. Additionally, Microsoft’s Matt Booty has hinted that the game could very well start after Arkane’s Redfall.
Also, Starfield isn’t new to the furnace. Bethesda developers have been cooking up this technological course meal for quite some time.
Interestingly, the company registered the game’s trademark in 2013. Additionally, it was officially teased during Bethesda’s E3 conference in 2018, followed by the official launch of the gameplay trailer at Microsoft and Bethesda’s Games Showcase 2022 event.

Why was Starfield’s late?
While Bethesda originally intended to release Starfield sometime in 2020 or 2021, the release date had to be pushed back to 11th November 2022 due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, the revamped release was once again pushed back to early 2023 due to the game not being in the finished form the developers deem worthy of a mass layoff.
Although the game was supposed to start exactly 11 years after the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, there are some valid reasons for such a delay.
First, there has been significant debate over the possibility that Bethesda was planning to launch Starfield somewhere between 2020 and 2021. However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has likely slowed production and pushed it further.
Second, Bethesda doesn’t want to disappoint fans like it did with Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk 2077. The former was received fairly poorly by fans in 2018, while several fans believed the latter was released “before it was finished”.
Either way, as long as fans get the “refined and polished” game that Microsoft and Bethesda have been promising, it’s not such a big deal to wait a few more months, is it? Patience may be bitter, but the fruit is pretty sweet!

Is Starfield exclusive to Xbox?
Since Microsoft signed a $7.5 billion deal to acquire Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, Starfield will officially be an Xbox-exclusive game. Unfortunately, this news comes as a blow to PlayStation gamers who have been looking forward to experiencing this futuristic epic.
Still, this might not be the best news for Xbox players either, as Bethesda plans not to release Starfield for previous-gen Xbox systems like Xbox One. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the game will only come to Xbox Series X|S systems.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Starfield director Todd Howard said: “You never want to leave people out, right? But at the end of the day, your ability to focus and say, this is the game I want to make, these are the platforms I want to make it on, and really rely on those, becomes a result carry better product.”
Will Starfield be available on PlayStation and PC?
Ahead of the game’s E3 2021 Showcase event, GameBeat’s Jeff Grubb announced that Starfield will not be released for any PlayStation or Nintendo consoles. This is likely because Bethesda is now a first-party Microsoft developer. However, the good news is that the game will be available for PC.
Such news might surprise gamers as Microsoft has not historically discriminated against across platforms, unlike Sony and Nintendo. For example, Minecraft will continue to receive support on Nintendo and PlayStation. Also, Microsoft launched the Minecraft Dungeon games on Switch and PS5.
Microsoft’s different approach to Bethesda games may stem from the company’s desire to increase the popularity of Xbox Game Pass and attract new users. Nonetheless, unless Xbox makes an official statement, this is all speculation.
Starfield is an upcoming space exploration game in development by popular video game company Bethesda. The game’s teaser was released back in 2018, while the gameplay trailer was released in 2022. Also, it is expected to come to the Microsoft/Xbox market in Q2 2023
