The film had its theatrical release date in India on October 14, 2022. The film was released at the 20th Tribeca Film Festival on June 10 last year. Streaming rights for Indian Gujarati language film Last Film Show have been snapped up by streaming giant Netflix. The film’s OTT release date is reportedly November 25, 2022. Netflix India had shared this information via a social media post but later deleted it. So we believe that plans may change.

The film’s official trailer in Gujarati audio with English subtitles tends to pull the strings of the heart. A heartfelt homage to cinema through the fascinated eyes of nine-year-old Samay, the film is heartfelt. The Last Film Show is a semi-autobiographical film. The locations of the film are the villages and railway stations in Saurashtra. It was filmed in March 2020, just before lockdown began.

The cast of the film consists mainly of child actors. Bhavin Rabari examines the role of Samay. Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, Paresh Mehta, Vikas Bata, Rahul Koli, Shoban Makwa, Kishan Parmar, Vijay Mer, Alpesh Tank, Tia Sebastien and Jasmin Joshi also star in the film. Pan Nalin, Dheer Momaya, Siddharth Roy Kapur and Marc Duale are the producers of the film, which is being funded by Chhello Show LLP, Monsoon Films and Jugaad Motion Pictures. Pan Nalin is also the director and writer of the film.

It’s an ode to cinema and films from a nine year old’s point of view. Samay is fascinated by cinema. He even skips school to watch movies. When he’s told it’s all over and that it’s the last film showing in the projection booth of a run-down cinema, Samay decides to study light. Because light becomes stories and stories become films. The game of the film is all about storytelling, and storytellers like Samay are the future. Samay too faces heartbreaking times on his journey to becoming a storyteller and filmmaker.

Those who have seen The Last Film Show (Chhello Show) have already praised it, and some have even called it a gem. The film received a thumbs up during its theatrical run. Rotten Tomatoes’ tomatometer shows 94% positive reviews, with a total of 16 reviews. The film received 4 out of 5 stars from NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee, India Today’s Shwetha Keshri gave it 4 out of 5 stars, praising the film’s performances and cinematography. Nandini Oza of The Week also gave the film a 4 out of 5, praising the way human relationships were captured in the film. Bhuvanesh Chandar of The Hindu praised the film for its story, cinematography, theme, direction and performances. E Times gave it four stars out of five. Earlier this weekend, the film won a grand prize at the Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) in Los Angeles. It was the winner in the Best Film category. Producer Dheer Momaya and director Pan Nalin were honored with the Snow Leopard Trophy at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.
