The harrowing true-crime documentary sequel Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich streams exclusively on streaming platform Netflix this month.

With Lisa Bryant returning to the director’s chair, the trailer for the documentary was released last month and looks at “the monster behind the monster.” This series focuses on Ghislaine Maxwell, the socialite and accomplice of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was tried for sex trafficking.

The 60-year-old was a prominent member of London’s social scene in the 1980s and a well-known socialite, having formed a friendship with Epstein at a party in New York in the early 1990s.

A founder of a women’s club named after the original Kit-Cat club, Maxwell was also a principal at Oxford United Football Club prior to her relationship with Epstein during her father’s tenure.

The series aims to explore the role played by French-born Maxwell in Epstein’s abuse of underage girls after she was arrested by the United States federal government in June 2020 and charged with crimes including seducing a minor and the Sex trafficking of underage girls – all of which had to do with her connection to Epstein. Crimes she continues to deny.

The trailer appears to show the documentary, which fully explores Maxwell’s background, her relationship with Epstein, and the subsequent trial that led to her conviction.

Filthy Rich will also speak with survivors of the duo, who will describe the horrors they were subjected to at the hands of the duo that led to Maxwell’s conviction.

Ghislane Maxwell Crime and Conviction

In December 2021, Maxwell was found guilty and convicted by a jury in a US federal court on five counts related to sex trafficking, each of which carries a possible sentence of up to 65 years in prison: one of sex trafficking of a minor (maximum: 40 years ), one for transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity (10 years) and three for conspiracy to commit a crime (15 years total).

However, Maxwell’s lawyers had pleaded for leniency after the 60-year-old was convicted in the US in December on five of the six charges she was facing.

Maxwell, who has maintained her innocence, was then sentenced to 20 years in prison, despite prosecutors pushing for a 30 to 55 year sentence.
