This defeat hampers Lionel Messi’s side’s chances of qualifying from Group C to the last 16.

Next, the South American team meets Mexico on November 27th and Poland on December 1st.

Argentina need to win those two games to give themselves the best chance of qualifying. Two wins would take it to six points, which could secure a top spot depending on other results.

Why was the Ecuador goal ruled offside by VAR?

Ecuador’s first goal in the opening FIFA World Cup match against Qatar in the third minute was ruled out after a VAR review, leaving Ecuadorian fans stunned by the decision.

Enner Valencia, who received the ball from a Felix Torres free-kick, headed it into the net to the cheers of thousands of Ecuadorian fans at Qatar’s Al Bayt Stadium.

However, after consultation with the video assistant referees, the goal was ruled out as offside.

Why is Qatar WC adding so much stoppage time?

A notable change in the ongoing Qatar World Cup was the addition of overtime added to each half.

A total of 90 minutes have been played in the five games played so far – this corresponds to the duration of a football game.

Dutchman Davy Klaassen scored in the ninth minute of added time, although officials added eight minutes of added time. It’s not as common to see overtime in World Cup matches as it is seen in this edition.
