FIFA World Cup Results 2022: Latest results today, yesterday and so far from Qatar

It’s day two of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and England gave us one of the highest-scoring games of the competition with a 6-2 win over Iran.

The tournament officially started after the opening ceremony and game on Sunday November 20th. Ecuador spoiled Qatar’s party with a 2-0 loss and the result was never in question.

The Netherlands drew level with Ecuador in Group A with a 2-0 win over African champions Senegal. The day ends with USA taking on Wales in Group B, knowing that a win over direct rivals will go a long way towards a place in the next round.

After Monday’s action, there are four games a day for the remainder of the group stage. Only the top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stages.

The image should begin to take shape in both Group A and Group B after completing the first round of play. Losing the opener could prove a major setback for the likes of Qatar and Senegal.

Qatar 0-2 Ecuador

Qatar disappointed by losing the World Cup on home soil and the game was over at half-time when Enner Valencia’s brace was enough to set Ecuador rolling.

It’s the first time a host country has been defeated in their opening game and Qatar coach Felix Sanchez has his hands full trying to lift his team’s spirits after a devastating defeat that long before had ripped fans out of the Al -Bayt Stadium blew the final whistle.

Groups C and D will be the center of attention on Tuesday when Lionel Messi’s renewed bid for a first World Cup begins in earnest. Saudi Arabia is not expected to put up much of a fight for the Albiceleste in their first competition. Mexico and Poland are realistically fighting for second place behind Argentina.

Denmark v Tunisia and France v Australia are two imbalances on paper, but the World Cup has always offered the odd surprise or two in the group stage that could wreak havoc in Group D.
