The Primate Observation Club will reopen next year. Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099, the futuristic sequel to the hilarious adventure from Fictiorama Studios, has finally set a 2023 calendar date for its release. A title that we had a lot of fun with during a playtest last summer and that announced its release date this week after causing a stir at the Golden Joystick Awards ceremony. And the chosen day is March 9, 2023.
Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099 picks up right where its predecessor left off, putting players in the shoes of voyeuristic monkeys who spy on strangers through security cameras, observing and analyzing every aspect of their bizarre everyday lives. A satirical vision of a potential future where our most intimate secrets serve as currency and charm for our monkey lords and masters. To find out more, you can watch our full interview with the producer Luis Olivanwhich explores the differences between the original and its sequel, set during the pandemic.
“Yes, it definitely had some influence on the stories of 2099. Our goal was to portray a society that was developing more aggressively than it is currently developing because of the lack of resources, but there are planets that are trying to protect the planet Mimicking Earth from a nostalgic perspective, like, “Oh, Planet Earth was so cool, Everything is beautiful, Let’s recreate Planet Earth.” Also, there are big international corporations that are now sponsoring planets, these planets are named after the companies there are corporations that control planets completely, so it’s this idea of aggressive capitalism at its best where even now corporations own planets and use them for advertising and marketing purposes. We wanted to take the current situation and take it to the extreme to see what was happening back then. The game also allows us to reflect on current society, which we did with Do Not Feed the Monkeys, but in a mor The extreme way, like: “Ok, if the current world keeps up this pace, where would it take us ?” We thought it might lead us to the situation we’re depicting in Do Not Feed the Monkeys 2099.”
Along with the release date announcement, a demo of the game has also been released on Steam, now available for everyone, as well as a new trailer that you can check out below. And remember: “Whatever you do, don’t feed the monkeys”.
